Holiday Keepsake

Safety First! Make sure to tell your caregiver what activity your starting! Wash your hands and ask for help when needed! Materials Needed

  • 4 Cups Flour

  • 1 Cup Salt

  • 1.5 Cups Warm Water

  • Large Mixing Bowl

  • Small Bowl

  • Pen

  • Parchment Paper

  • Paint

  • Paintbrush

  • Ribbon or String

Optional:

  • Cookie Cutters

What to Do

  1. Gather all your materials

  2. Set up your station in an area that can get messy

  3. With an adult, preheat your oven to 250F.

  4. In a large bowl mix all of your ingredients: 4 Cups Flour, 1 Cup Salt, 1.5 Cups Warm Water.

  5. Knead until a dough is formed.

  6. Take the dough and roll out on a counter

  7. Once your dough is rolled to a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Use your small Bowl to make circles in the dough.

  8. Pull away the excess dough (you can make this into a ball and roll out again to make more!).

  9. In each circle put a handprint or paw print of your pet!

  10. Next using a pen, poke 1-2 holes in the top of your dough depending on how big it is!

  11. Next place the dough circles onto the parchment paper on a baking sheet.

  12. You'll need to cook it for 1-2 hours; checking in on at an hour to see how dry it is! If the top is dry - carefully flip the circle over to keep baking. (With an Adult)

  13. With Adult, take the baking sheet out of the oven and let cool.

  14. Once cool, it's time to decorate your keepsake! Paint in the hand print or around it! Add glitter for some pizazz!

  15. Finally loop some ribbon through the hole.

  16. Now your Holiday Keepsake is ready to display! Hang it in a window, in your room, on a tree or gift it to a friend or family member through the mail!

Optional: Instead of making a hand print circle - use cookie cutters to cut out fun winter shapes like snowflakes!
